Vintage Chinese Wooden Suanpan Abacus

A vintage Chinese suanpan abacus with red-stained wooden beads arranged across brass-toned rods within a dark wooden frame.

The traditional two-above and five-below bead arrangement was used for performing calculations before electronic calculators became commonplace. Today, it makes an interesting decorative object for a study, office or collected interior.

A small original paper label remains attached to the frame. Believed to date from the later 20th century.
